No more entangled lobsters, short lobster wont get stuck in the holes, you can see what your trying to catch, nice sized Spanish lobster won’t get away, it does not tear or rip easy at all, etc. Its made with the ideal thickness of polyethylene thread that’s not too thick and not to thin to facilitate lasting durability but still glide through the water and be able to see your catch through the mesh. The Hoop size is very important! Some say it is a matter of preference but there is a true science to the reason a smaller hoop is more Effective. The goal of bully netting is to intentionally spook the lobster up into the netting. If the hoop is too large (over 18inches diameter) the lobster will often sit still when you place the hoop down over it witch makes it almost impossible to catch it due to the lack of contact with the lobster. The smaller hoop provides more points of contact with the lobster to ensure it gets spooked and kicks up into the netting. The smaller hoop also means the lobster doesn’t have to travel so far to be “caught”. (remember lobster always swim fast backwards) Just one small tail kick with its tail will suffice instead of 2 or 3 kicks needed for the larger hoops. They often just do one little kick and then freeze. Also the smaller the hoop is the smaller the chance is it will escape as you bring it up. More featured benefits listed below.
12 inch diameter hoop for the experienced bully netter. To request this size just say it in the order notes at checkout. It is the same price as the 15 inch.
15 inch diameter hoop is the most all around effective hoop size suitable for all experience levels for these reasons:
- More points of contact with the lobster to make it jump into the netting almost every time (can’t catch a lobster that sits still)
- Lobster only has to flinch and it’s in the net / less distance for it to travel to be “caught” in the netting
- The smaller the hoop the less chance of escape
- Moves through the water current easier
- Able to catch doubles and triples better
- Gets in small places better like rocky spots
- Takes up less space on the boat
- More rigid than a bigger hoop
- As long as you watch the lobster through the hoop like you are supposed to when you place it down on them *(Tail in the center)* , there is no need for a bigger hoop and it doesn’t matter how big the lobster is.
18 inch diameter hoop not ideal but some customers prefer it.

The Handle Length that you choose depends on your budget. 12ft handle is IDEAL. First thing to consider is that while standing on the front of your boat, it’s about 4 – 5 feet between the water surface and your waist line. Meaning if you use a 6ft handle than you can only be in 1ft of water to reach the bottom without bending or laying down on your boat to catch a lobster. Trust me you don’t want to do that all night! Bully netting takes place in about 1 – 12ft of water depending on the water clarity and quality of lights you have.
- 6ft is intended for kayaks or paddleboards that are low to the water lobstering in about 1-5ft of water or less. This size is not ideal for those nights when the lobsters are out deeper.
- 8ft is intended for small boats that are low to the water lobstering in about 1-6ft of water or less. This size is not ideal for those nights when the lobsters are out deeper.
- 10ft is only available in the composite handle option. Made with one 6ft section and one 4ft section. This allows you to catch lobster in shallow waters and out in those 1-8 foot depths from low profile boats.
- 12ft is highly recommended and the most popular. This allows you to catch lobster in shallow waters and out in those 1-10 foot depths from all types of boats. This is the most popular size for bully netting by far.
- 14ft is only available in the composite handle option. Made with one 8ft section and one 6ft section. For those nights when the lobster are out deep and the water is clear. There is a level of difficulty added when trying to catch a lobster in 12ft or deeper water, and added difficulty when there is strong water current.
- 16ft is only available in the composite handle option. Made with two 8ft sections (non-shippable) . For an upcharge you can request for it to be made with two 6ft and one 4ft section so you can have a 12ft net but attach and detach the 4ft section as needed. For those nights when the lobster are out deep and the water is clear. There is a level of difficulty added when trying to catch a lobster in 12ft or deeper water, and added difficulty when there is strong water current.
- 18ft is only available in the composite handle option. Made with three 6ft sections so you can have a 12ft net but attach and detach the end 6ft section as needed (shippable). Intended for those nights when the lobster are out deep and the water in clear. There is a level of difficulty added when trying to catch a lobster in 12ft or deeper water, and added difficulty when there is strong water current.
